First place to check is the safety switch on the kickstand. The kickstand must be up to start the bike and sometimes this switch sticks. A couple of sprays with WD-40 and pushing the switch by hand a couple of times usually fixes it. Try that first.
Also try pulling the clutch is when starting, even if you're in neutral. I have heard that some bikes have an additional safety switch on the clutch handle.
